Morning Show Notes - Thursday, January 13th

-Usually the stores run out of bread and milk before a snow storm, but John noticed at Publix yesterday that they were out of milk after the storm. Perhaps it is because so much of the South has been paralyzed that the delivery trucks can't make their rounds? We understand why everyone goes nuts buying bread but don't really understand the milk part because it could spoil in a power outage. One listener told us she had the answer: Listen (MP3 file)

-Maybe we need to stock up on beans the next time a winter storm hits us. Christy sent us a note saying she and her husband had planned to make Mixed Bean Soup, which was last week's Simple Cooking recipe. Their power went out in the storm and since they had all of the ingredients, they decided to cook it over their grill outside. Christy said it was the perfect, hearty, tasty, snowed-in dinner! In case you missed the recipe, click here.

Simple Cooking - Wednesday, January 12th

Fresh Cranberry Salad

1 Pkg cranberries
1 Green Apple, chopped small
1/2 - 1 cup of chopped walnuts, or pecans, if you like!
2 large cans of Mandarin Oranges, drained
1/2 cup of sugar, or to taste

Wash cranberries and use food processor to chunk small. Hand chop the Green Apple small (put directly into lemon juice to keep from browning). Chop walnuts or pecans; the chunkier the better! Add Mandarin Oranges (original recipe called for fresh; we like these better!). Add sugar, lightly toss and enjoy. This is one of those which is BETTER the second day, tart and tasty! Recipe makes about 6 - 7 cups.

Submitted by Judy Parkinson of Aiken.
