Morning Show Notes - Friday, January 28th


-Our kids do things that make us mad and how we handle that anger is important. An Augusta woman was arrested for punching her son after he refused to apologize to his teacher and then hitting his leg with her car when he wouldn't hand over his phone. -Bob Waliszewksi, our movie guy from Focus on the Family, joined us to talk about the weekend's new releases. The Mechanic is an assassin story that is not suitable for families. Also, What If, a family-friendly movie about second chances in coming to television this weekend. There will be multiple showings on GMC this Sunday evening.

-Today is the 25th anniversary of the Challenger space shuttle disaster. We remember how comforting President Reagan was in light of that tragedy. You can watch his address to the nation by clicking here.

-Now you can put the bomb on germs with the germ grenade. It's hand sanitizer that could also save your life. People may run from you though with a grenade look-a-like clipped to your belt loop. Germophobes like John will appreciate this. Click here to see it

Morning Show Notes - Thursday, January 27th


-Cleve has been a little under the weather this week, with something he calls the Man Flu. It's when a man gets a cold or similar sickness and can't get any sympathy from his family! There may be scientific evidence to prove such a thing exists. (Read more) By the way, look for the Man Flu Awareness Group on Facebook to see the warning signs for this dreaded illness!

How often do you wash your jeans? Josh Le, a college student at the University of Alberta in Canada, was able to wear the same pair of jeans for 15 months without washing them. John washes his after each wear, but Cleve only washes jeans after 2-3 wears. After our conversation this morning, John cannot understand why so many people don't wash their clothes. -John and several others at 88.3 WAFJ, along with other ministry leaders from the CSRA, watched a special screening of The Grace Card last night. Simple Cooking - Wednesday, January 26th


Zesty Beef and Rice Skillet

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 boneless beef sirloin steak, 3/4-inch thick, cut into strips (about 1 pound)
1 jar (16 ounces) Pace® Picante Sauce
1 cup Swanson® Beef Broth or Swanson® Beef Stock
1 cup uncooked regular long-grain white rice
Chopped fresh parsley

1.Heat the oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until it's well browned, stirring often. Pour off any fat.
2.Stir the picante sauce, broth and rice in the skillet and heat to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 20 minutes or until the rice is tender. Sprinkle the beef mixture with the parsley, if desired.

Morning Show Notes - Tuesday, January 25th

-The place to be last night was Christenberry Fieldhouse at ASU. The Jags hosted USC Aiken in men's basketball in front of a standing room only crowd. ASU beat USCA in an overtime thriller 57-53. They'll rematch on February 2nd at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.

-John got a smartphone this weekend and is still trying to figure out how to use it. There are so many apps on it that it can get overwhelming. Teresa called to tell us about an app called "Talking Tom." Listen

-Sam Hancock, lead singer of Luminate, joined us this morning on the day their project Come Home is released. Listen: Part 1 Part 2

-The Family Y, in conjunction with Team Lean, is offering a health presentation this week called "Starting an Effective Exercise Program." Learn simple techniques to maximize your exercise results in a minimal amount of time. Discussion topics will include common misconceptions about exercise and techniques to make your cardio, resistance and flexibility training more effective and enjoyable. This is free and open to the public. You can catch it tonight at Warren Baptist Church (6:30-7:30 PM), tomorrow at Aiken Regional Hospital (12:00-1:00 PM) and Thursday at the Richmond County Board of Education (12:00-1:00 PM).

A: Ronald Reagan - The disaster was the space shuttle Challenger explosion, and this Friday is the 25th anniversary of that horrific event.

-It's the Packers vs Steelers in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 6th. As always, the commercials will be a highlight.
