Morning Show Notes - Wednesday, January 5th

-John received a scam e-mail that looked like something official from Facebook. It turns out to be a phishing scam that sends an e-mail saying you haven't visited Facebook in a while and have some messages waiting for you. If you click on the link, it takes you to what looks like a Facebook login but is actually a trap for scammers to get your login information and hack your account.

-Cleve had some computer troubles of his own this week. His daughter was using some software that allowed malware on his computer and caused it freeze on a certain website without letting you navigate away form it. Thankfully, he was able to clean it up. John also mentioned a free malware removal tool that has helped him at http://www.malwarebytes.org/.

-Millie Schumaker from the Family Y joined us to talk about the area-wide weight loss competition called Team Lean. John and Cleve both participated last year and it lead to 35 pounds lost for John. In fact, watch for John in a TV commercial for Team Lean that is running on WJBF Newschannel 6. Cleve lost a few pounds, but probably would have lost more were it not for those chicken biscuits he ate every morning. :) This is a fun way to lose weight with friends and co-workers and you can find out more at http://www.thefamilyy.org/. The kickoff is Monday from 3 to 8 PM at ASU's Christenberry Fieldhouse.

-Walmart and Procter & Gamble continue their mission of bringing family movies back to television with Change of Plans that airs Saturday at 8 PM on Fox. See the trailer

-Rebecca Legg of Hephzibah shared her quick and easy recipe for Mixed Bean Soup on Simple Cooking with John and Cleve this morning. See the recipe in the post below this one.

-Coming up Thursday: Mandisa joins us at 7:40 to talk about her weight-loss success and her new year's resolution. She will be at Girls Night Out with Anita Renfroe on March 12th in Aiken. Listen for your chance to win tickets. Also, the viral video about the homeless radio guy with the golden voice is touching hearts everywhere. Ted Williams gives God the credit for bringing him out of drugs, alcohol and homelessness and into a job and a home. How has God brought you from despair into hope? We'll be looking for 180-degree God Stories from you tomorrow morning.

Simple Cooking - Mixed Bean Soup

Combine in a 3 quart pan:

5 cans assorted beans
I never use two cans of the same type.
I like to use some red, some dark beans, and some white beans.

Sample mix: 1 can of each kidney beans, navy beans, black beans, black-eyed beans, and hot chili beans.

1 can whole corn
1 can diced tomatoes (Again, lots of different flavor varieties available)

OPTIONAL: several dashes of your favorite hot sauce.

OPTIONAL #2: If you really must eat meat, add 1 pound browned hamburger or sausage.

Bring this to a simmer, then turn down heat until ready to serve. I like to let it simmer for at least 15 to 20 minutes, to give the flavors a chance to blend.

Serve with bread and salad, or over rice. Sometimes we will put shredded cheese or parmesan on top. Very filling and satisfying meal, with (other than opening cans) almost no preparation.

One listener told us she loves Mr. Potato Head and gets a different one from her family every Christmas. Another listener said she is playing with her daughter's Nintendo Wii more than her daughter and even convinced her daughter to buy a game that mom wanted.
