Things We Talked About Today

-Although the weather doesn't feel like the fair today, it's that time again. The South Carolina State Fair starts Wednesday in Columbia, and the Georgia-Carolina Fair starts on Friday in Augusta. The Western Carolina State Fair in Aiken starts on October 21st.

-Chris Tomlin joined us this morning. We got the scoop on how he proposed to his soon-to-be wife, Lauren. He's in concert on Saturday in Aiken and tickets are still available at http://www.wafj.com/. Listen to our conversation with Chris: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4

-Jonny Diaz got his wish of being able to attend a Braves playoff game and see his brother, Matt, in action. Unfortunately, the Braves' season ended last night with their loss to San Francisco.

-Randy Phillips of Phillips, Craig and Dean is a big Texas Rangers fan. The Rangers are fighting for a spot in the World Series. Randy wrote a hip-hop song called "Do the Claw" inspired by an extended handshake maneuver that the players do to each other on the field. Although Randy wrote the song, he's not the one singing it. He enlisted the help of Canton Jones. You can hear it by clicking here.

-Lisa shared some good news with us this morning. Her son found a job thanks to us mentioning a recent job fair. There's another one today, sponsored by MAU, at the Jameson Suites on Claussen Road in Augusta. They are filling 56 industrial positions at Kimberly-Clark, Hubbell, E-Z-Go and Newman Technology. There is another job fair happening this Friday at the Thomson campus of Augusta Tech. That one runs from 10 AM to 2 PM. Also, Teleperformance is hiring for 300 positions at it's Augusta call center. You can apply here.

-Cleve was on his soapbox about people forwarding chain e-mails and e-mails reporting things as "news items" that aren't true. He's received a couple of those lately. A couple of good websites for fact checking e-mails are http://www.snopes.com/ and http://www.truthorfiction.com/.

-Thanks to everyone who voted for us in Augusta Magazine's "Best of Augusta 2010." 88.3 WAFJ came in third place for best radio station and John and Cleve came in second place for best morning show. We're honored that people took the time to cast a vote for us.

Coming up Wednesday...Artist and author Tammy Trent joins us at 7:40 AM. She is speaking at the Women's Community Event on October 23rd at Warren Baptist Church. You'll have a chance to win tickets after we talk to her. Also, Diane Day tells us about her Pesto Pasta Salad at 8:10 AM in our Simple Cooking feature.
